Two Tone Dream Car

Two-tone paint jobs first appeared on the scene during the ’50s, and while some are best forgotten, there’s no denying that a well executed two-tone paint job can be a real head turner

Why not make your car a two-tone dream by having the most stunnig look in your area!

Two Tone Mk1 Consul Cortina Info
Originally the name Cortina was "borrowed" from the Italian Skiing resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the Dolomite mountains.

The car was billed as "The medium sized car at a small car price", at the time this "small car price" was around £550! and was launched to compete with technically advanced Mini.

The Cortina was available in Standard, Deluxe, Super, GT and Lotus versions. The Cortina was available as 2-door, 4-door and Estate forms. However the Lotus was only available as 2-door versions. The GT was mainly 2-door versions but they also came as 4-door saloons.

The engine in the new Cortina is a 1,200 cc. unit which has been developed from the famous Anglia 105E engine and is now adapted to develop 48.5 b.h.p. Top speed of this new model is somewhere in the region of 80 m.p.h., whilst the touring fuel consumption can be placed between 36 and 38 m.p.g.

Acceleration performance is particularly good, giving a standing start to 60 m.p.h., in approximately 23 seconds. The new, all synchromesh four-speed gearbox, with optional gear shift on floor or column, is of a particularly sturdy design and should wear very well over a long period.

Once it's long gone from the market, manufacturers are usually quite sporting about problems encountered in the early days of a model range. Ford has certainly been playing the game during the 40th anniversary of the week in September 1962 when the Mark I Cortina was launched, although the game has a few more twists and turns than even Ford seems to realise.

The car's original project name was Archbishop, selected by Ford of Britain "just for fun, to outrank a Ford of Germany project, code named Cardinal. Later, Ford's British product planners discovered that Cardinal referred to a bird, not a churchman's title."

Well, fine, but the Germans scored a double victory there: archbishops actually rank below cardinals.
Mind you, Ford has owned up to asking the mayor of Cortina in Italy if he would mind the town's name being used, while not being aware that it was about to market a car which would translate in Madrid, Barcelona and similar centres as the Ford Curtain.
